A little insight into Austria and Vienna
Austria
Austria, officially the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked country of roughly 8.3 million people in Central Europe. It borders Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. The territory of Austria covers 83,872 square kilometres, and is influenced by a temperate and alpine climate. Austria's terrain is highly mountainous due to the presence of the Alps; only 32% of the country is below 500 metres, and its highest point is 3,797 metres. The majority of the population speaks German, which is also the country's official language.

Vienna
As the capital of Austria and its location in the heart of Europe, Vienna is a very important city as well for the East as for the West. Vienna has a population of about 1.8 million and was ranked first in surveys about quality of life. Art and culture have a long tradition in Vienna, including theater, opera, classical music and fine arts. Therefore, it has been home to many famous artists, notably Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gustav Klimt. Vienna is the last great capital of the nineteenth century ball and we will use this fact as well during our Gala Night at the conference.
